Goan Beef Puffs (Patties)

If you’ve ever had one of the beef puffs before, then you know how addicting they are. You cannot have JUST ONE…you’ll want two, three, four, and five!

These are a very popular appetizer in Goa and in my home, they are my kid’s favorite meal!

Traditionally, the puffs are made out of ground beef BUT they can also be made with chicken or egg.

Ingredients

Puff Pastry rolls or squares (I use the rolls and it yields 18 puffs)

These are easily found at Walmart or Kingsoopers

1 lb ground beef

1 tablespoon Ginger Garlic Paste

½ tsp salt

½ cup red onion

1 tsp Garam Masala Powder

3 thai chillies (adjust according to desired spice level)

½ tsp Turmeric Powder

¼ cup chopped cilantro

1 tsp red vinegar or fresh lime juice

1 egg for basting and a little water to prepare the puffs

White flour for dusting

Method of madness 😊

  1. Leave your frozen dough out on the counter to thaw (about 30 minutes or less if you’re in a warmer counter)

  2. In a pan or pressure cooker, Sautee the onions with 2 tbsp of canola oil. Once the onion is translucent, add the turmeric and ginger garlic paste and cook it for about 10 seconds

  3. Add the beef and all the other spices (except the cilantro and vinegar)

  4. Cook the beef all the way thru. If you are using a pressure cooker, let it cook for about 2 whistles. If you are using the instant pot, take it off Sautee mode and pressure cook it for 6 minutes. Add fresh cilantro and vinegar

  5. Once this is cooked, pre-heat your oven as per the package instruction on the dough you are using

  6. Lightly dust your work area and very lighting roll out the dough (or squares)

  7. Fill each square with a little stuffing

  8. Slighting wet the edges of the puff, so it helps the dough stick together. I use a fork to press down the edges. It gives it a little bit of a design

  9. Onto the baking sheet they go…Bake until the puffs slightly puff up (about 15 minutes)

  10. Baste the puffs with the egg wash and bake again until it’s golden brown Serve these hot with your favorite sauce! These are usually served with Ketchup or spicy ketchup. My kiddos eat them just the way they are… And so do we…One Two Three Four at a time

When I make these, our calorie count is forgiven for the day

Enjoy!
